High-octane racing, crashes, and adrenaline-pumping action - that's what Americans crave. And now, two US racing veterans, Cade Bickmore and Danny Summerhill, are joining forces with USPro crit champs Lucas Bourgoyne and Luke Fetzer to form the Cadence Cyclery p/b Waldo Racing team. This new setup promises to be a game-changer in the world of criterium racing.
The team's ambition is clear: to create a professional racing outfit that captivates American audiences with its high-action, thrilling races. With Summerhill's 21 top-10 finishes last year, including a stage win at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, and Bickmore's pursuit of track goals leading into 2028, the team has a strong foundation.
But what sets this team apart is its innovative approach to marketing and logistics. The merger with Waldo Racing has resulted in a massive investment in a 45-foot branded recreational vehicle, a 36-foot trailer, and a towed minivan, collectively known as the '85-foot mega rig'. This setup is designed to be a mobile event center and content hub, engaging fans at the biggest one-day races in the US.
Bourgoyne envisions a supercross-meets-rock-and-roll experience, traveling from stop to stop to bring the thrill of criterium racing to American audiences. The rig will feature activation events, allowing the team to tell its story and create a unique, immersive experience. With eight beds inside, the rig also offers a cost-effective solution for accommodations, eliminating the need for air travel.
The team's debut is set for Texas at Pace Bend Weekend, followed by a national debut at the Sunny King Criterium in Anniston, Alabama, on April 11. Bourgoyne believes that criterium racing can reach new heights, comparing it to supercross or motocross. He emphasizes the appeal of high-action, tense races with crashes and excitement, which resonates with American audiences.
This new team is not just about racing; it's about creating a professional, immersive experience that raises the bar for criterium racing in the US. With a focus on marketing, logistics, and a passion for the sport, Cadence Cyclery p/b Waldo Racing is poised to become a powerhouse in the world of cycling.
