Photographer Captures Iconic ET Scene After Two Years of Planning
Michael Meighan, a photographer from Wales, is thrilled to have finally captured the famous scene from the movie ET. This recreation, a labor of love, took nearly two years to plan and execute. Meighan and his friend, Nathan Edwards, a plasterer, embarked on this ambitious project, aiming to recreate the iconic moment when Elliott's BMX, with ET riding in the basket, flies past the Moon.
The challenge lay in timing and location. They had to wait for the perfect alignment of the Moon and the right weather conditions. Edwards, determined to make it work, prepared by fastening a plastic wash bowl with a teddy bear to his bike, mimicking ET's position. Meighan, positioned 1.4 miles away, watched through his viewfinder as Edwards pedaled uphill, enduring a five-minute bike push to reach the desired spot on Eglwysilan Mountain.
The pair's persistence paid off, as they finally achieved the desired shot during the first full Moon of the year. Meighan expressed his excitement, mentioning the numerous attempts and the unpredictable weather that had hindered their progress. He emphasized the importance of planning, stating that the actual execution was straightforward once the plan was set.
The successful recreation brought them joy and a sense of accomplishment. They celebrated with a heartfelt embrace and a visit to a nearby pub. Meighan praised Edwards' dedication, highlighting the enthusiasm and commitment required to make such a project a reality. This unique achievement showcases the power of perseverance and the magic that can be created through collaboration.
